How Can I Help You Have Fun, Be Fit & Feel Fabulous?

Montauk 2010

I’m not sure where the summer is going, but here we are at the start of August.  Soon, I’ll make my last summer escape to a place I’ve been visiting every August since childhood: Montauk, NY.  August of 2011 is a bit different, however, as today also marks the two-week “anniversary” of the LauraLovesFitness kick-off.

This seems like a good time for me to take the pulse of my readers and see where you’d like things to go from here.  Basically, I want you to help me help you get what you want from reading this blog.  You’ve taken the time to visit the site, read the posts and some of you have even gone the extra mile by leaving a comment and sharing the things that work in your own life.  In order to make you want to keep coming back for more, I ask this one question: what fitness-related topic would you like to see addressed in a future post?

As you can tell from what I’ve written so far, I am a true believer that there are so many components to fitness that reach beyond the confines of a gym or your neighborhood bike trail.  Everything from our sneakers to our snack choices will affect our overall well-being.  Don’t be shy! If it’s something you’re curious about, it’s probably a topic someone else wants to know about, too.  I can’t promise I’ll have the answers immediately, but I’ll be more than happy to do a little research, ask opinions of even more experienced “fitness gurus” and let you know what I find.

Let me take this time to also thank all of you who have shown your support by signing up for an email subscription, liking my Facebook page, following me on Twitter or spreading the word about my blog. (Please keep up the good work!) I look forward to receiving your questions and suggestions for future posts so we can work together to have fun, be fit and feel fabulous!

  1. morning friend! great idea to get feedback! i love it! one place i think people are truly lacking is positive self image/self talk and the effects positive(and negeative) verbal affirmation can have on ones self. have a great day!xo

    • Hello Amy, Wow! Did you touch on a great topic! I 100% agree with you that we can all get a refresher course on the power of positive thinking and how we can be our worst enemies when it comes to maintaining a healthy self image. I will be happy to offer a very personal account of how lacking a positive self image is bad for your overall well-being.

  2. Hi Laura! I love reading your blog–it’s very inspiring. My problem with getting/staying fit right now is not knowing exactly what to do with myself once I’m at the gym. Should I just focus on cardio? (I’d like to lose a few pounds.) If so, do I stick with one machine like the treadmill and work on building speed and endurance, or switch it up and try the elliptical sometimes? Should I start again with the weight machines, which I haven’t done in a while? (I’d also like to tone up and gain strength.) Take a class?

More questions: 🙂 Why do I always get hungrier when I start a workout program again? It seems to always ruin my attempted weight loss! And is it true that muscle weighs more than fat, or is that just my snacking due to the increased hunger? Last one: If I build muscle, won’t I get bigger?

Feeling overwhelmed has become a bit of an excuse for me to slack off on getting fit, so I figure if I start to figure it all out I won’t have any more excuses!

    • Hello Molly, Thank you very much for taking some time to really think about several topics you’d like to know about! These are all great questions and can be applicable for someone like you who is “starting over” on the fitness front along with anyone who’s bored with their current routine and has hit a fitness plateau. I am going to consort with a few other fitness experts to get some additional input and try to give you the best advice I can. You may be overwhelmed right now, but I can tell you this much: getting started on any new routine is the hardest part. Once you get going, you’ll be so happy you did. (It’s like me and this blog. I have talked about launching it for probably a year and now that I have, I think ‘why did I wait so long?) Thanks again for giving me some material for several blogs to come!

  3. I have a question for you — I know you’ve mentioned walking as a form of exercise. I think people over and underestimate it. People think “oh I walked to the subway — I’m good for the day” – is that enough? Some people think “walking won’t do anything for you” — but that’s not true either! what’s the real story? How much do you really need to do? How fast do you need to walk?

    • Hi Paula, Great question! I think this is a great topic and look forward to putting together what I hope will be some helpful information regarding the realities of what walking can do for you. I see a fitness fact vs. myth theme stemming from this idea….so thank you for unlocking some other ideas in my brain!
