A Birthday Pass
So, I planned on writing another “serious” and informative segment for the latest installment on LauraLovesFitness, but it isn’t going to turn out that way. Instead, after enjoying a celebratory evening to honor my mom’s birthday, I’m reminded why one of my favorite expressions of all time remains “life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.”
My work schedule and my mom’s birthday celebration plans left no room for a workout today. At dinner, I ended up having more wine than usual, and I even had a chocolate molten lava cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert after polishing off some amazing pappardelle for my main course. I’m reminded that on special occasions, it’s okay to enjoy yourself and step outside your “normal” zone.
I enjoyed a wonderful evening of wine and conversation with my family – which included my aunt and uncle who are visiting from Italy. I’ll get back on track tomorrow by eating my normal fare of fruits, veggies and whole grains and getting to the gym after work. For tonight, it was nice to live in the moment and unwind after work…and for what better reason than to celebrate the most fabulous female I know – my mom.
So, I leave you with this: it’s okay to fall off the fitness wagon once in awhile. Life throws us curve balls sometimes. Whether you’re out celebrating something wonderful or dealing with something not-so-great, remember that tomorrow is another day…and another chance to have fun, be fit and feel fabulous!

Thanks Laura for this post – it was awesome! Still trying to get back into my “new regime” of 5:45am Spin Class on Mondays and Wednesdays, which is literally the only time I can make for it between being a Mom, Wife, Grad Student, Grad Assistant, Intern AND writing my thesis this semester!!! I really miss having the gym in my life and the rewards it gives me – but finding the balance is so hard. Although this week was an epic fail as far as getting to the gym – tonight’s work days will end with walking with the kids (on their bikes) and dog, and I am signing up for Spin tomorrow am. I am determined to get back on track! Your posts are so helpful & inspiring – keep up the great work!!!!!!! XOXO-Aimee
Hello Aimee, I am so glad you can find some inspiration in my own personal accounts. We are always so hard on ourselves when our schedules just make it nearly impossible to fit certain things into our life – like exercise. You have SO much on your plate, and yes, finding the balance is tough, but it sounds like you have a plan and that is the first step to making things happen. And I wouldn’t call your week a failure – it’s been filled with projects and priorities that took precedent, that’s all! So, enjoy the walk with the kids and breathe in the beautiful weather and remember, tomorrow’s another day, and next week is a whole new week. Remember, grad school and your thesis will eventually come to an end, but your relationship with the gym and your fitness routine will be a lifelong journey, so it’s bound to have its up and downs. Good luck with all your hard work. Thanks again for taking the time (which you have so little of!) to write. Enjoy the weekend!
