I really don’t know where the time is going, but here we are kicking off the eighth Workout Wednesday of 2013!

As the nickname suggests, this is the one day each week where I tend to push it even harder than usual at the gym. Also, the fact that I’ve found a new group exercise class to add to my arsenal of calorie-busting, muscle-boosting workouts makes Wednesday one of my favorite days of the entire week!

As I spent most of yesterday traveling back from Texas and didn’t have time for a typical workout, I’m even more eager to get back in action today. It’s amazing how good you can feel after one day of rest. In fact, there are countless studies out there proving why you need to take at least one day off each week. It’s during the rest that your muscles recover and actually have time to grow.

There are certain weeks when life will throw some curve balls at you and put the brakes on your typical fitness routine. The key is taking things one day at a time and making this day work for your life at this moment. If this Workout Wednesday turns into your rest day for the week, remember, down time is a crucial component in the never-ending journey to have fun, be fit and feel fabulous!

  1. Good Morning, Laura! I agree with the 4 times per week protocol for training (even three for that matter). Many fitness enthusiasts get so wrapped up in building the perfect body that they easily forget the power of rest and how this helps tremendously. I FORCE myself to take one full-week off after 12 week cycle. The rest week makes me what to climb the walls yet I know that the week will help the body to become more efficient. Have you ever taken a whole week off too?

    • Thanks for taking the time to check in! I think it’s important for more of us fitness enthusiasts to remind people about the benefits of rest. We tend to be of a mindset where pushing the body to the ultimate limit is best and unless you have a competition deadline looming, for overall health and well-being, the rest is so necessary!
      I’ve definitely taken a week off from my workouts based on different circumstances – injuries, being on vacation or quite honestly, simply being lazy – and when I’ve resumed my routine, I feel even more energized to get back in action!

    • Thank you, Nana! I really do love the Wednesday class – it’s so much fun! I’m sad I’ll miss it this week as I have to travel for work, but I’ll be back next week with a vengeance!
